Dean's List

With the fall semester in the books, three Tiger golfers were selected to the Dean's List. In order to achieve this accomplishment, the students must attain a minimum 3.65 grade point average while completing at least 15 grade point credit hours. Congratulations to Austin, ELG and Kalen!

Austin Jung is studying engineering sciences.
Erik Long-Goheen is majoring in accounting and finance.
Kalen Vos is studying engineering sciences.

Words from a TU Grad

Ben Klimesh, was one of our most prolific pitchers since I've been around Trinity. He was drafted last spring and has just completed his first year playing professional baseball. Klimesh set single season and career school records in strikeouts and wins. He had some important words for a recent article.

"I practiced every single day, and the hours add up. That helps you get to a place where you not only catch up to the other players but actually surpass them."

"It's a long season and very much a mental game so I take it one day at a time. I can't think about the big picture. I actually just think about getting better one day at a time."
Full article

This how we should approach each day this off season. We have plenty of people to pass and we should do it one day at a time.

Eleven hours in a van...

We spent about eleven hours in the van for our trip to and from Tyler, TX. While guys spent a good portion of that time catching up on some much needed sleep, they did get some work done. Below is a list of books that were read, studied or reviewed and the corresponding class. Oh yeah, and the team got treated to an outstanding vocal performance from an up and coming artist out of the McLean residence hall.

Animal Farm- Peoples of Russia
Flight- American Modern Literature
A History of Modern Europe- Early Modern Europe
Fundamentals of Thermodynamics- Digitial Logic Design
Applied Statistics for Engineers and Scientists- Statistics
Chemistry Principles and Reactions- General Chemistry
Statistics and Dynamics- Structural Dynamics

We played some really good golf in stretches taking 3rd of 12 teams. As usual, The Cascades proved to be a great test and really identified a few spots in our games that can use some improvement. I am looking forward to seeing some of these teams at our home event in a couple of weeks.

Q(E)3: Oak Hills C.C.

While Chairman Ben and the Fed were the pre-practice discussion last week, I thought the post title still relevant. Yesterday's pre-practice conversation was the importance of academic/standardized tests. Do they measure what the are supposed to? Does society place an incorrect importance on test results? The debate was left unresolved as we had to play some golf. We played 9 holes at Oak Hills Country Club and the afternoon couldn't have been better: great course conditions, mild temperature and just enough breeze to move the flag a bit.

UTT Qualifying: River Crossing

We got to play 18 holes at River Crossing Golf Club on Saturday afternoon before the deluge Sunday. It was the calmest day I have ever seen out there. Everything was great except for the majority of our scores. Kalen, Warren and Austin earned exemptions into UTT by being in the top 20% of the John Bohmann Memorial field. The rest of the guys are playing for one spot, low goes. Qualifying should wrap up on the 24th.

First Day of the Fall Season

We started our fall season last Friday with an 18 hole qualifier at Brack. It was good to get everyone back together and welcome the two new first-years. We played in-course out of bounds on every hole so it altered some guys' club selection a bit and forced a few re-tees. The qualifying leaderboard is below:

Kalen 69
Alex 71
Warren 72
TY 73
Reddi 73
Austin 73
ELG 77
Stephen 77
Blake 83
Felipe 85
Kalen is low man with 2/3 of qualifying remaining.

First-year, Stephen DePuma, hit a three wood off the 9th tee.

Austin hit a hybrid off of the tight 7th.

SCAC 2012

We finished up in fourth place with Kalen and Warren receiving 1st and 2nd team All Conference honors. The guys played hard but we were unfortunately unable to pair more than a couple good rounds together each day.  Everyone played great in stretches, but playing against solid competition on a course with water on nearly every hole and wind blowing 10-20 mph requires you to control your ball for all 18 holes. All in all it was a fun trip and an experience that will make our team better next year.

We played at Tunica National Golf and Tennis Club. It has hosted the 2011 US Open Sectionals, Mississippi Am, the SEC Championship as well as a few other great events.
